Bulldogs hosting Warhawks in summer sports Tuesday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL summer sports teams will host West Fork in non-conference action Tuesday. The baseball game will air on 104.9 KLMJ.

The softball team is coming off Monday’s 10-0 loss in four innings at #7 (1A) St. Edmond, where they had trouble generating offense against one of the elite defenses of Class 1A. Returning home, they’ll have a “Strike Out Cancer” event.

“We had a couple different sponsors help us pay for pink uniforms,” Hampton-Dumont-CAL coach Kelsey Enslin says. “I think we’re just going to do like a free will donation that goes to Relay for Life. We did sell some strikeout cancer shirts, and the girls are going to honor some people that they know who have been impacted by cancer, and specifically breast cancer. We’re just excited to bring recognition to that. And our girls are excited about a fun night.”

#8 (2A) West Fork will return to action for the first time since Friday’s 13-0 win over Northwood-Kensett and will continue to solidify its possible playoff positioning in the final days before the release of brackets. Head Coach Sadie Winfrey hopes the team can clean up some errors throughout the final games of the regular season.

“We’ve really done much better as the years have gone with not falling apart when we are behind and coming back and doing what we need to do,” Winfrey says. “It’s those mental errors right now, those silly fielding things that we don’t do when we practice and we don’t do when we warm up and stuff. And then it’s just those situations we have to mentally be ready for.”

The West Fork baseball team was last in action Monday against Newman Catholic, falling 7-5 in Game 1. Game 2 was suspended due to weather.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL is coming off Monday’s doubleheader sweep at St. Edmond, where they won 8-5 and 8-1. They’ll step out of conference play for the first time since a 3-2 win over North Butler on Thursday, June 12. They’ve won three straight in the series with the Warhawks.

Both games will start at 7:30, with pregame coverage of the baseball game starting at 7:15.
