The Revitalize Dumont Committee hosted free tours of the Dumont school building during Sandbaggin Day on Saturday, June 21. The committee also hosted a 5K run/walk, a bake sale and sold Dumont Wildcat t-shirts and sweatshirts to help raise funds for the project.

President of the Revitalize Dumont Board of Directors Roger Kregel tells RadioOnTheGo News some of the work that was done in recent weeks.

“Another step in getting the word out on our efforts here in the building in Dumont. This past couple weeks, a group of guys put new bleacher seats on the bleachers. We spent a lot of time on just trying to get the floor halfway cleaned up, so it’s usable.”

The event brought multiple Dumont alumni back to the grounds, to tour the school’s gym and cafeteria area and learn more about opportunities to give back to a part of their history.

Kregel on the community’s investment in the project.

“This has really become a community project. The community’s really rallying around this. Every time we need something done, we’ve got a long list of volunteers that is too numerous to say thank you to now. Whenever we need something done, there’s people stepping up to the plate and saying, how can we help? We just want to continue that momentum, because we’ve got a multi-year project to get this facility back to what we want it to be.”

Kregel on the next needed renovations within the building.

“Get our roofs protected. Right now the gymnasium roof seems to be holding okay, but it’s not going to last very long. We want to make sure we can preserve this part of the building for sure. Other projects going forward, we have to get all new electrical into the building. That’s going to be a large number to get that done. We want to make the cafeteria a place. Get some water and sewer going in here and in the bathroom. So that we can truly make this an activity center, a community center.”
