Falcons return from long break to host East Marshall Wednesday

The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams will return to action for the first time in nearly a week when they host East Marshall in NICL crossover action Wednesday.

The baseball team has a three-game win streak, which included a doubleheader sweep of Columbus Catholic last week. Head Coach Brett Kleespies on the key factors for success in the final days before postseason play.

“We’ve really stressed communication this year,” Kleespies says. “We have a few guys that are underclassmen that are decently quiet, so we’re just trying to bring some stuff out of them, communicating in a positive way to each other. It’s one of those things, they all want to win and nobody wants to make mistakes, and so when they make mistake it’s trying to pick your teammate up and stressing that has been a big thing for us. But how you respond to it is going to tell you a lot about how we’re going to go forward. Just having good at-bats still at the plate. Against Columbus, we had some really good at-bats that we hadn’t seen all year. Guys not giving up. And the first part of the year it was like, we had two strikes on us, or wasn’t a pitch that we wanted. Body languages were huffing and puffing. But now, the last couple games have been really well with getting deep at-bats. And that’s what it’s going to take.”

The Falcon softball team will look to bounce back from a three-game losing streak while looking to reduce errors that have cost them several runs to opponents. East Marshall will look to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-0 loss to West Marshall, their first time being shut out this season.

The softball game will start at 5:00 p.m. and the baseball game will be at 7:00 p.m.
