The West Fork baseball team made quality contact but were kept from capitalizing on it in a 8-0 loss at Wapsie Valley in a Class 1A District 4 final on Saturday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.
After a scoreless first inning, Wapsie Valley with a two out rally in the second loaded the bases and drove in three runs. The Warriors, while maintaining a shutout, added two runs in the fourth and brought home three in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0. The Warhawks offense was limited to only two hits and only four base runners. The Warriors defense was in the right place at the right time to take away potential hits and RBIs for a majority of the contest. West Fork Head Coach Kayden Ames on at bats in the game and what competing in a second straight district final means to the program.
“It’s tough we knew they were gonna be good, they were gonna come out hit the ball and score runs. We hit the ball and hit it right to people pretty much every time. When that’s happening not a whole lot you can do. Hate to see it go that way but a good season overall,” says Ames. “Where we were three-four years ago to get back to back to the finals that’s great. Obviously we want to take the next step, that was the goal this year. It doesn’t always work out the way you want it to, but shows growth and improvement in the program, with the guys and the team. I have no doubt that next year we will come back ready to do some damage.”
Zander Hansen pitching in relief, had four strikeouts and allowed four earned runs in three innings for the Warhawks. Hansen also led the team with two hits.
West Fork concludes their season at 12-11.
