The Clarksville boys basketball team with a young core this winter rallied around senior Camden Behrends. Behrends was the second leading scorer on the team with 9.2 points per game and assists leader 3.6 per game. Head Coach Jonah Woodward says Behrends understood the leadership assignment and fulfilled it.
“He’s such a great young man, that was raised right. He did so many things for our culture behind closed doors, that a lot of people probably don’t realize. It’s going to pay huge dividends, hopefully this next coming year and years to come. He was a tremendous leader on the court and off the court,” says Woodward. “He’s a tremendous ambassador of what the community of Clarksville is all about. He’s a blue collar kid that works hard and earns everything he gets. He’s definitely one of the better kids I’ve ever coached. He understands everything we’re trying to do from a culture standpoint, to a scheme or X’s and O’s standpoint.”
Sophomore Harley Barnett was the Indians leading scorer with 9.5 points and rebounder with 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior Briggs Hoodjer added 8.5 points per game and provided a boost from beyond the arc shooting 33.5 percent with a team best 61 threes on the season. Woodward highlights areas the team needs to improve on to take that next step.
“You gotta be talented, you gotta be tough, you gotta be together and you gotta have five guys on the court at all times that you can trust. We’re gonna keep working on developing that, we call that our C4. The biggest thing we gotta develop and do a better job of in Clarksville is player-led leadership and mental and physical toughness. That’s one thing we’re really gonna stress hard on this offseason. A big push is just getting kids in the weight room, getting kids out for multiple sports and competing every day.”
Clarksville concluded the year at 4-18 overall and are projected to return 10 players next season.
