A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until noon today for much of central and northern Iowa, including Franklin, Hardin, Cerro Gordo, Wright, and surrounding counties. The National Weather Service says repeated rounds of storms are expected today through tonight, bringing the risk of strong wind gusts, isolated large hail, and heavy rainfall. The heaviest rain and greatest flooding threat are expected across central into southern Iowa, but localized flooding is possible anywhere, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
More storms are likely Sunday into Monday, continuing the risk for heavy rain and flooding. Spotters may be needed, and rainfall reports are appreciated. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts, prepare for rapidly changing conditions, and never drive through flooded roadways.
Full details and updates are available from the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
