The Aplington-Parkersburg girls tennis team will host Hampton-Dumont-CAL for a non-conference dual Thursday, the home opener for the Falcons.

AP (1-2) opened the season with a 9-0 win over Oelwein Monday, but fell 9-0 to Dike-New Hartford and 8-1 to Columbus Catholic in a double dual Tuesday. Head Coach Haley Schneiderman says it’s been a smooth transition to the fall season, especially for the returning varsity players.

“It’s definitely different,” Schneiderman says. “A lot of the prep work is kind of the same, but it was nice that the girls could hopefully play over the summer and then carry that momentum with them into the fall season. Whereas spring, sometimes it’s snowing right into the season and you can’t get out there and play at all unless you go to clubs or things like that. So that was super helpful. I feel like a lot of our girls kind of picked up where they left off.”

Jayden Krausman, Megan Bruns and Holly Haugstad have taken over the #1, #2 and #3 singles spots.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL (0-1) is coming off Tuesday’s 9-0 loss at Nevada to begin the season. Jade Johnson has moved to #1 singles. Returning varsity players Autumn Janssen and Yesi Valenzuela have moved to #2 and #3.

The meet will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Aplington Recreation Complex.
