Monday, Hampton mail carrier Matt Johnson spoke to the council regarding the city’s ordinance on dangerous and vicious animals. This comes after Johnson was attacked by a dog along 7th Ave SW in July while on route. He told the council during the workshop meeting to consider a vicious dog definition change. Johnson feels there should be zero tolerance when an incident occurs with an irresponsible dog owner.
In other business, Steve Huling and Jeff Winters presented the council a proposal for updating the frisbee golf course at East Park. The course is 20 years old and Huling stated the course needs to be updated. The total cost for this improvement is approximately $1,600 and most of it will be paid for by the Rotary Club and donated labor. Huling and Winters were not requesting city money, but permission to proceed with the project. The consensus of the council was to place this item on Thursday’s regular meeting agenda.
City Manager Ron Dunt also discussed the purchase of a patrol car for the current fiscal year. He stated there is about $69,000 in the city fund that is set aside for the purchase of police vehicles and equipping them. Dunt stated the price of the vehicle they are looking to purchase is roughly $50,000. The consensus was to purchase a car for the police department before the end of the fiscal year.
