While parts of Iowa saw heavy rain earlier this month, statewide precipitation totals for August are running below average. According to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, six of the past seven years have seen August rainfall come in under the long-term average, and 2025 appears to follow that trend. Some local areas did record above-average rain from isolated storms, but overall the statewide total remains low. The Mesonet notes a few scattered chances for rain remain as the month ends, though the majority of Iowa will likely finish August drier than normal.
