The Iowa Falls Lions Club is gearing up to help host the 28th annual Scenic City Labor Day Car Show this Monday (Sept. 1). Lions Club President Tim Dunphy says the event is a long-standing tradition for the community, put on in partnership with the Scenic City Cruisers.
“Hey. I walk around, and some of these cars are just absolutely fabulous. I mean, these guys have taken old Pontiacs and old Chevrolets, and some of them have kept them all original, and that’s fine. And then some of them have created them so that they’re drivers and put in crate motors with fuel injection and things so that they start and run, and they can just drive them to these shows and not have to trailer them.”
The Scenic City Labor Day Car Show typically draws hundreds of classic and custom cars to downtown Iowa Falls, filling Washington Avenue and nearby streets. Dunphy says the show isn’t just about cars—it also helps fund Lions Club projects.
“Well, they’ve got we’ve always had the eyeglass situation where to help kids or adults for that matter with some money for some eyeglasses. It’s kinda spilled over into some hearing aids these days. And then some of the special projects, Lois Jones, has really done a great job of in our fall, holiday baskets, food baskets to try and help fill a need there in the community and then, you know, just different things.”
Registration for entries opens at 7:30 a.m., and Dunphy asks participants not to park before that time to allow organizers to get set up. The show features around 43 trophy categories, along with family-friendly activities, and food vendors
A preview event is planned Sunday afternoon with a cruise around Hardin County. More information is available at sceniccitycarshow.com.
