Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo has cut the ribbon on its newly expanded Regional Transportation Training Center. The $7,500-square-foot addition includes three new classrooms, a second simulator lab, a third drive-through truck bay, and space for student and faculty use. The facility first opened in 2012 and features a driving range with turns and inclines designed to prepare students for life on the road.

College President Dr. Todd Holcomb says about one person each day earns a commercial driver’s license through Hawkeye, with many students securing jobs before finishing the program.

Iowa Workforce Development lists truck drivers among the state’s most in-demand careers, with 10,000 new drivers needed annually through 2032. The expansion will boost Hawkeye’s CDL training capacity by 25 percent – adding room for more than 200 additional drivers each year.
