Hampton-Dumont-CAL will host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in a North Central Conference volleyball match Thursday, which’ll air on YouTube @RadioOnTheGo and 104.9 KLMJ.
The Bulldogs (1-1, 1-0 NCC) are coming off last week’s 3-2 win at St. Edmond, where they came back after a slow start. Hitting .141 on the season and .079 against the Gaels, the team will look to increase their efficiency. Juniors Maren Subbert and Madison Heilskov say the team has clear objectives which they hope will lead to further success.
“I think it’s a lot of trust and connections,” Subbert says. “We just need to get used to playing with each other as a team and getting that trust and connections and then getting that the talk up, getting that communication up so that we know where everybody is on the court.”
“I agree, communication,” Heilskov says. “I feel like after every set we’re like, oh yeah, we can communicate more. We always know that we’ve got to talk more. And again, trusting each other. There’s sometimes some mixed up balls that we didn’t trust our teammates that they were there. Playing together and learning that, yep, they’re there. We know, just leaning on them to know that they’re going to be there and have our backs if we need.”
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (2-4, 0-1 NCC) fell 3-1 at Iowa Falls-Alden in last week’s conference opener. They’ll look to build on a match where they had balanced production with Jacqueline Kirstein and Ella Engstrom each leading with eight kills.
