The Ackley City Council focused on several major items at last week’s meeting, beginning with next steps for the Prairie Bridges Park Board lease agreement. City Attorney Seth Schroeder requested direction, and the council reached consensus to issue a 45-day notice, requiring the lease to be returned by December 22nd, or the park’s water service will be shut off.

Budget planning was also discussed. As fiscal year 2027 preparations begin, the council agreed on a 3% wage increase for most departments, citing rising insurance costs and cost-of-living pressures. Updates were also provided on a fiscal year 2026 budget amendment and property valuation changes.

Infrastructure improvements received approval, including a $40,840 contract with J4 Contracting for ambulance building upgrades and several lift-station pump and valve repairs. The council also approved a bid to Cedar Valley Roofing in the amount of $59,350 to replace the depot roof and approved a bid from Schipper Home Construction for city hall window upgrades.

Other actions included naming Thomas Craighton as Ackley’s new EMS director, setting December 10th public hearing dates and investing a cemetery CD.
