The North Butler Clarksville girls wrestling team is in the midst of training for their first competition of the new season. Head Coach Ben Loviren.
“We still do the basics a lot in practice, but we’re getting to the point now where we’re showing more advanced stuff. The girls are hitting more advanced moves and stuff like that,” says Lovrien. “We’re gonna have a lot of weights filled this year because we’ll be bumping kids around and stuff like that. If you can put a full lineup out there and minimize the forfeits, that helps a lot.”
After graduating two seniors NBC will return six wrestlers from last year’s lineup. Senior Sydney Lovrien went 32-14 between matches at 190 and 235. Senior Alexa Gott went 24-17 between matches at 170 and 190. Sophomore Maliyah Liddle went 31-14 between matches at 170 and 190. Sophomore Mackenzie Schultz went 30-22 between matches at 125 and 130 last season. Lovrien’s mindset entering their first competition.
“You just go out, battle hard and the wins take care of themselves. If you’re doing things right, pushing yourself, the wins, they always take care of themselves,” says Lovrien. “We always make adjustments going through that. It always seems like every year we’ve gotten better and better as the season progressed. We’re looking forward to getting this thing started.”
NBC will begin their season as part of a 20 team tournament field at Decorah on Saturday.
