Cadet Girls Hoops beginning season at West Marshall Monday

Iowa Falls-Alden will travel to West Marshall for the girls basketball season opener Monday.

Four starters graduated from last year’s team that went 10-13. However, they’ll look to build around sophomore Elody England, who was last year’s leading scorer at 12 points per game.

West Marshall went 19-6 and reached the Class 3A state tournament last season. One starter and four rotation players are back. Cadet Coach Michael Collison says despite the lost production, the Trojans will be well-rounded.

“The girls that play there and grow up playing there play a lot outside of the season,” Collison says. “They’re physical, they’re aggressive, and we know it’s going to be a tough first game on the road. They had a really good season last year. They had some strong senior players who’ve graduated, but the reality is all the kids that were on that team playing against those kids every day in practice are now the ones who are going to be playing, and they’re going to be ready to go. So we’re certainly not going to be taking them lightly and we’re going to have to play a really good game to get that win on the road to start the season. They’ve got a little bit more size than we do. They’ve got some girls who are six feet tall that will play a lot of minutes.”

The tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
