The North Butler girls basketball team will travel to Belmond-Klemme for their season opener on Monday. This will be the first meeting between the teams since 2012.
North Butler went 3-18 last season. The Bearcats return their top three production leaders. Sophomore Zoey Thompson led the team with 10 points and seven rebounds per game. Sophomore Eden Wix provided a post presence with 6.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Jady Thorne added 5.5 points per game last season. Bearcats Head Coach Jordan Nolz.
“If we have energy and effort, those are two things that are challenging to coach at times. I think we’ve seen that in practice. I think we’ll see that in games. The rest of it will kind of come with it,” says Nolz. “We’ve worked on plenty. We’re not just focused on energy and effort in practice. We put in plenty of sets and stuff that we think fit our team well. I think that’s the starting point for game one, is establishing our culture through energy and effort.”
Belmond-Klemme went 12-11 last season. The Broncos will have a new rotation after graduating four of last year’s everyday starters. Returning everyday varsity minutes includes senior Kaylen Morris and junior Nevi McMurray. Broncos Head Coach James Severson.
“Along that path of growth, there’s going to be obstacles, there’s going to be things that get in our way, but we have to move on to the next play. It’s just one play at a time, the the next play,” says Severson. “We can’t let that last mistake turn into two or three more, it’s just one play at a time. We’re going to focus on as many positives as we can and try to connect as many of those positives as we can into all four quarters.”
The tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. in Belmond.
