The #10 (2A) Grundy Center girls basketball team will begin its season by traveling to Union Tuesday.

Coming off last year’s 15-8 finish, the Spartans are returning all eight regular rotation players. With the experience factor on their side, Head Coach Matt Lindeman says they’ll be well-scouted by Union.

“The first game is always a little bit different feel than really any other game, just because the opponent that you’re facing has some new faces,” Lindeman says. “They’ve probably graduated players and so forth. It’s hard to gather much information other than what you see statistically, and it’s hard to be able to get any real game action of what they actually look like. Obviously they can pretty much see what we do, what we did last year and be able to take that. Coach Matt Craft came in last year and has done a really nice job of taking over the program. We’re going to be able to go play three levels on Tuesday night, which is great. That’s not going to happen on many evenings throughout the winter, but that’ll be great for all the girls to be able to get some good playing time. So that’s huge.”

Karlee Lynch led with 12 points per game, followed by Ava Mundt at 11.9 with 9.3 rebounds per game, leading a veteran roster.

Three starters are back from last year’s Union team that went 2-21. However, no returning players scored more than five points per game, meaning they’ll look for increased production across the board.

The tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
