The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says a 26-year-old man died Friday night after an accidental shooting inside a rural residence.
According to a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release, the Humboldt County Dispatch Center received a 911 call around 8:19 p.m. on Nov. 28 reporting an accidental shooting at a residence in the 3300 block of 210th St., near Goldfield. When law enforcement arrived, they found George Filmalter, 26, in the dining room with several others present.
Investigators say Filmalter was handling a handgun he believed was unloaded when it discharged, injuring him fatally.
The sheriff’s office reports no foul play is suspected, and there is no threat to the public. Investigators do not believe Filmalter intended to harm himself or knew the firearm was loaded.
