NIACOG, Iowa Northland, and Other Local Funds Receive Major Housing Grants

Wednesday, the Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors announced $12.2 million in grants to 26 Local Housing Trust Funds to strengthen local housing initiatives. The awards were made through the Local Housing Trust Fund Program and are expected to benefit over 2,400 families.

The grant funds will support a range of initiatives aimed at developing or preserving housing for low-income households across the spectrum of housing needs. This includes the development and preservation of housing, assistance for persons experiencing homelessness, rental assistance, homeownership support and other efforts that directly address local housing needs.

Among the 26 Housing Trust Funds awarded statewide, several local funds received significant support from the Iowa Finance Authority. The NIACOG Housing Trust Fund, which includes Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties, received over $517,000. The Iowa Northland Regional Housing Council LHTF, which includes Butler and Grundy counties, received $485,000. Hardin County is part of the Region 6 Housing Trust Fund which received over $455,000 and the Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, which includes Wright County, received nearly $453,000. 

Since its inception, the State Housing Trust Fund has supported more than 41,400 Iowa households through the LHTF Program, investing more than $140 million to advance local housing initiatives.
