The West Fork basketball teams will travel to Garner Hayfield Ventura for a Top of Iowa crossover doubleheader Thursday.
Coming off last year’s 11-12 campaign, it’ll be the season-opener for the boys team.
“We saw Garner Hayfield Ventura this summer, played against them a times just in different team camps or leagues this summer,” Head Coach Abe Maske says. “And we know they lost some really key players. But I also know Garner’s got some good kids coming back. And they’re going to be a team that we’re definitely going to prepare for. I like our chances with them. And I think it’s a great game for us to get kicked off and started for our season. But ultimately, it’s going to come down to are we going to be able to execute and limit the amount of mental mistakes and unnecessary turnovers. So if we do that, I like our chances. I think it’s going to be a good game.”
Last season’s top three scorers graduated, but Zander Hansen scored 7.4 per game and is the top returning scorer. The Cardinals began their season Tuesday with a 67-53 win over North Iowa.
The Warhawk girls (1-1) will look to bounce back from Monday’s 76-35 loss at #9 (3A) Forest City. GHV opened its season with a 56-23 win over North Iowa on Tuesday.
The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
