The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team will tip off North Central Conference play with a trip to Clear Lake on Friday. The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
Hampton-Dumont-CAL (1-1) won their home opener 42-24 over Nevada on Tuesday. The Bulldogs forced 20 turnovers in their win over the Cubs and will look to carry over that level of play. MacKenzy Valley leads the team with 12.5 points and 3.5 assists per game. Bridget Brocka adds 7.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Head Coach Miranda Stafford says defensive intensity and rebounding remain focal points.
“Defense has always been a focus of mine because it’s something you can always control. You can always control how hard you work on the defensive end. You can always control your energy and your effort. We’re going to focus on those defensive fundamentals. We’re going to work hard on the defensive side of the floor for sure,” says Stafford. “We’re going to focus on rebounding. We’ve got to win it on the boards. We’re not going to be very big. We’ve got to work on those fundamentals, controlling the paint and holding teams to one shot. We’ve got to be aggressive. We’ve got to see if we can get some second chance opportunities on the offensive boards. Rebounding is going to be a big deal.”
Clear Lake (1-0) won their season opener 53-30 at home over Ballard on Tuesday. The Lions shouldn’t be underestimated from distance, as they knocked down eight three pointers against the Bombers. Jacelyn Ainley paced the Lions with 20 points and four assists. Ashleigh Amble led the team 10 rebounds and added eight points.
The Bulldogs have won four straight in the series, including a 46-41 win in Class 3A regional quarterfinal last season.
Pregame coverage will begin at 5:45 p.m. followed by the tip off at 6:00 p.m. in Clear Lake.
