Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff in honor of two Iowa Army National Guard soldiers killed while deployed overseas.
The order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until sunset on the final day of interment for Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, and Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres, 25, of Grimes. Both soldiers served with the 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment.
The Iowa Army National Guard says the two soldiers were killed in an enemy attack Saturday in Palmyra, Syria.
Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and throughout the Capitol Complex, as well as on all public buildings, grounds and facilities statewide.
Individuals, businesses, schools and local governments are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
