Iowa producers face Jan. 15 deadline for NRCS conservation funding

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced a Jan. 15, 2026, national batching deadline for the first round of funding for several major conservation programs

The deadline applies to the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, Conservation Stewardship Program and the Regional Conservation Partnership Program, including the agency’s new Regenerative Pilot Program. While NRCS conservation programs are typically offered through a continuous sign-up process, officials say the initial batching period is being implemented to provide producers with a clear and consistent timeline for funding opportunities

NRCS State Conservationist Jon Hubbert says the agency remains committed to supporting Iowa producers through conservation efforts and improved service delivery.

According to NRCS, Iowa producers received more than $68 million in conservation funding during fiscal year 2025, covering about 258,000 acres through more than 1,300 program contracts.

Farmers and ranchers interested in the first batching period must submit applications by Jan. 15. Additional programs, including Conservation Innovation Grants, are expected to open later in the year. More information is available through local USDA Service Centers or online at the NRCS website.
