The Clarksville girls and boys basketball teams will host Butler County rival North Butler in a non-conference  doubleheader on Monday.

The Clarksville girls (10-4) has won back to back games including a 65-39 win at Janesville on Friday. Paige Kampman sets the tone with 22.5 points per game at 46.7 percent shooting from the field. The Indians defense has challenged opponents allowing 35.9 points per game (second lowest in the Iowa Star North). Head Coach Ross Timmermans shares team character traits that have aided the defense and his thoughts on hosting North Butler.

“We’ve got a bunch of girls that just really understand, what it is that we’re trying to accomplish. They know basketball, they have high basketball IQ and they’re really passionate about the game. They enjoy playing with each other. When you’ve got that combination, you’ve really got a product. We’ve got some size, we’ve got some length, we’ve got some quickness and talent. I think that all those factors combined, point you towards being pretty successful defensively,” says Timmermans. “That’s one that you always get amped up for. It’s one that you always get excited for. We’re thankful that we’ve got it at home this year. We like playing in our gym and battling against the Bearcats.”

The North Butler girls (7-6) has won three straight games including a 40-34 win at Don Bosco on Thursday. Eden Wix establishes a post presence for the team with 11.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The Bearcats keep the ball moving offensively with 11.9 assists per game (second most in the TIC-East). Head Coach Jordan Nolz highlights the Bearcats teamwork on offense and preparation for Clarksville.

“That’s one thing that sticks out. We do a great job. We try to get a lot of our sets, man or zone sets, and make the extra pass. We’re pretty efficient in that manner. We’re not playing isolation ball. We play as a team,” says Nolz. “Clarksville’s off to a good start. I think they’re playing well. Obviously, they have Paige Kampman, who’s a really, really good player offensively. We’ll definitely have a tough matchup. It’s tough because we play Monday right off the bat. We’re going to have to figure out how we can use film and other methods to prepare for that.”

The Clarksville boys (1-11) fell 67-35 at Janesville on Friday. The Indians have kept things balanced offensively with nine assists per game. Camden Behrends leads the team with 9.2 points and 3.2 assists per game.

The North Butler boys (8-3) have won five games in a row including a 42-39 win at Don Bosco on Thursday. The Bearcats have been locked in defensively limiting opponents to an average of 42.5 points per game (the least in TIC East). Jarrett Shear with 12.9 points and Wrigley Endelman with 11.3 points per game paces the Bearcats.

Action is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. in Clarksville.
