B-K and CGD basketball split rivalry doubleheader on Monday

The Belmond-Klemme and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams split their annual Wright County rivalry on Monday. The B-K girls won 37-22 and the CGD boys won 76-63. 

In the girls game, it was tied at eight after one quarter and BK took a slight advantage at 16-13 entering halftime. The Broncos led 22-17 at the start of the fourth. In the final quarter, the Broncos took control of the game with a 15-5 run to go up 37-22. The run was aided by forced turnovers and high percentage shot attempts. The Broncos maintained their double digit advantage in the closing minutes to secure their second win in their last three games.

Nevi McMurray had 14 points to lead the Broncos. Audrey Egland scored eight points to lead the Cowgirls.

In the boys game, BK and CGD played shot for shot during a majority of the first half. The game was tied at 19 after one quarter and Cowboys took a slight advantage at 37-33 entering the break. The Cowboys jumped out to a 50-40 lead in the third. The Broncos trimmed it to single digits at 57-50 heading to the fourth. The Cowboys made the most of drives into the paint in the fourth, outscoring the Broncos 19-13 to pull away. The Cowboys with the home victory extended their win streak to six games in a row. 

Huxley Lingenfelter set the tone with 27 points for the Cowboys. Kysen Lamb delivered 24 points for the Broncos.

Belmond-Klemme will host Eagle Grove in Top of Iowa West play on Tuesday. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will travel to Humboldt in North Central Conference action on Tuesday.
