Clarksville city officials reviewed housing inspections, permits and long-term infrastructure planning during a City Council department meeting held Jan. 19.

Council members discussed the possibility of implementing rental housing inspections, agreeing to continue reviewing options and revisit the issue at a future meeting. The council also approved adding a home industry and home occupation permit to the city’s restricted residential ordinance, noting existing businesses would likely be grandfathered in.

Officials reviewed hazard mitigation efforts, including debris management, emergency water storage and drainage improvements in flood-prone areas.

Additional discussion focused on plans for a new county shed on city-owned property along West Walnut Street. The proposed 54-by-100-foot facility would house road equipment and snowplows. City officials also heard updates on Church Street construction, employee wage report corrections and health insurance cost projections for the upcoming budget year.
