Snow ordinance enforcement continues in Hampton, but citation numbers are steadily declining with each major winter storm.

According to Hampton Police media logs, during the season’s first major snowfall, police issued 91 citations for snow ordinance violations. That number dropped to 33 citations during a late December storm, and with the most recent snow event, citations declined again to 23.

City officials say the ordinance remains critical for allowing crews to efficiently clear streets, particularly during overnight operations when parked vehicles slow plowing, sanding and widening efforts.

Officials continue to remind residents that when the snow ordinance is in effect, vehicles, trailers and equipment cannot be parked on city streets or alleys.
