The Hardin County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Wednesday and approved a $100,000 transfer to the county’s employee benefits system due to increased insurance claims across county departments, cities, recycling and landfill operations. Supervisors also approved a recommendation to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources regarding a construction permit for the Buckeye 27 animal feeding operation site in Buckeye Township.
Supervisors received an update on the Iowa River’s Edge Trail project, including plans to demolish a failing railroad bridge north of Gifford as early as late next week, with work completed by April 1st due to bat habitat restrictions. A new clear-span bridge is planned to reduce debris and ice issues, with additional paving and bridge work scheduled in phases over the next several years.
Public comments included concerns about hog facility expansions and manure pit integrity, with no board action taken.
