State Rep. Shannon Latham, a Republican from Sheffield, has announced she will not seek another term in the Iowa House of Representatives.
Latham has represented House District 55 since 2021. In a statement, she said serving in the Legislature had been a longtime goal.
“It had been a dream of mine to serve in the Iowa Legislature ever since I traveled to Washington, D.C., in high school,” Latham said. “Being your voice in the Iowa House has been an absolute honor.”
Latham said she made the decision after accepting the position of executive director of the Iowa FFA Foundation, which she said requires her full attention.
Latham was first elected in 2020 and chaired the House Local Government Committee before becoming chair of the Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee. She also serves on the Agriculture, Appropriations, Commerce, and Economic Growth and Technology committees.
She will continue representing House District 55, which includes Franklin and Hamilton counties and parts of Story and Wright counties, through the remainder of her term, which ends in January 2027.
