A jury in Pottawattamie County has convicted a man of killing his former girlfriend in 1989. The body of 25-year-old Barbara Lenz of Woodbine has never been found. Investigators said Lenz had told others she feared her boyfriend would kill her if she left him.

Robert Davis, 62, of Council Bluffs, was arrested a year ago. A Pottawattamie County jury found him guilty of second-degree murder Tuesday.

The case marks the first conviction for Iowa’s Cold Case Unit, which was established in July 2024.
