The Volunteer Spring Cleanup and Potluck, originally scheduled for April 4, has been moved to Saturday, April 18, due to inclement weather. The event will take place at Lake Cornelia Park and Campground beginning at 10 a.m.
As aired on the Outdoors in North Iowa podcast, Aubrey Brandt, a naturalist for Franklin and Wright counties, says the event is designed to prepare the local landscape for the busy summer season while fostering a sense of community ownership.
“We are having a volunteer spring cleanup and potluck at Lake Cornelia Park and Campground,” says Brandt. “The event starts at 10am and we will clean up some litter along the trails, beach, parking lots, and other needed areas for an hour or two.”
Following the cleanup, the county will host a potluck for all volunteers. Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share, and refrigerator space will be available on-site for food storage.
To thank community members for their service, Brandt notes that those who help out will receive a voucher for future recreation at the park.
“We are already stoked to have folks join us for a fun day outdoors, but we want to invite you back,” says Brandt. “We will be providing one night of free camping certificates to participants so you can enjoy your hard work this summer.”
The certificates are limited to one per family or individual and remain valid for two years. There is no age requirement for the event, and registration, while not required, is highly encouraged to help staff prepare materials. Registration links and a potluck dish sign-up sheet can be found on the Wright County Conservation Facebook page.
