Republicans in the Iowa House of Representatives may hire a Texas company to use artificial intelligence to analyze spending in each Iowa county and the state’s 220 largest school districts.
As lawmakers and Kim Reynolds consider plans to cap property taxes, House Speaker Pat Grassley says local officials could use the data to compare expenses with other counties or school districts and identify potential cost savings.
Tyler Technologies has offered House Republicans a contract with an upfront payment of up to $1.5 million, with nearly $1 million due in each of the next two years.
Reynolds says she has hired consultants for state government work and believes the proposed data analysis could be useful, but she has asked state IT experts to review the proposal and confirm the company can deliver on its promises.
