Rowan City Council meeting recap from April 6

The Rowan City Council approved its fiscal year 2027 budget and adopted an ordinance amendment during its April 6 meeting.

The council approved the FY27 budget following a public hearing that drew no comments. Members also unanimously approved an ordinance regarding discharging weapons and waived the third reading, allowing the measure to take effect upon the mayor’s signature.

In other business, the council approved an updated payroll resolution and changed the water assistant position held by David Eriksen from a salaried role to an independent contractor. Officials also authorized the mayor to sign a 28E agreement with Wright County for maintenance on city streets.

City officials said requests for qualifications have been sent to three engineering firms as part of a water department grant process, with proposals due April 16 and expected to be reviewed in early May.

The council also set a public hearing for May 4 on the disposal of public property and discussed nuisance abatement efforts, including sending notices for garbage and an abandoned vehicle.
