The Belmond Police Department reported full compliance from local retailers following recent tobacco enforcement checks conducted in partnership with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division through the I-Pledge program.

In a Facebook post Friday, the department said it tested all Belmond businesses licensed to sell tobacco, alternative nicotine, and vapor products. No sales were made to a minor during the checks. Three of the four businesses requested and scanned identification, while the fourth refused the sale after recognizing the individual was underage.

The I-Pledge program focuses on education and enforcement to prevent illegal sales and increase awareness of state laws. Officials say each of Iowa’s roughly 3,500 permitted retailers is checked at least once annually.

Police credited local businesses and employees for following the law and helping protect youth, calling the results a strong example of community partnership and responsible retail practices.
