The Belmond City Council approved a $6.23 million wastewater treatment facility improvement contract and took action on several other items during its regular meeting April 6 at City Hall.

Council members approved plans and specifications for the project, then awarded the contract to Peterson Construction of Webster City, pending financing.

The council also approved terminating the Dumond Estates residential urban renewal plan area, which city officials say would allow certain lots to be sold more broadly, subject to existing restrictive covenants.

In other action, council members accepted the first pay estimate for the aquatic center project, retained Fort & Schlegel for audit services, raised RV park and shelter rental rates, and approved a funding application for the aquatic center.
