Hampton’s annual city-cleanup is going well so far, according to compost site employee Betty Poley.

Poley, who’s worked as one of the city’s three seasonal compost site employees for the last seven years, said the event is a great way for them to help beautify the area, giving people a chance to get rid of all of their junk.

The compost site will be open until 6:30 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as part of the cleanup’s extended hours. The following items can also be dropped off at the compost site during this time: appliances (which must be clean and empty), large toys, grills, TVs and monitors ($25 each), tires without rims ($12 per tire), furniture, windows and tree branches under 8 inches in diameter.

The following items are not being accepted: hazardous materials, LP cylinders, water softeners, hot water heaters, commercial tires, construction debris, tree branches over 8 inches in diameter.

The city’s new compost site, which officially opened last October, is located at 1236 Olive Ave in Hampton.

Pick-up spots for this Friday are now full, according to the team at Center One.

Pick up next week’s edition of the Hampton Chronicle to see how the rest of the clean-up went.
