In celebration of today being Earth Day, the Hampton Tree Board members are busy planting trees just east of the aquatic center this morning, using funding from a DNR grant they recently received.
Their special guest this morning: Ann Fuhlbrugge of Webster City. Her late husband, Wayne, who worked for the Iowa DNR, was instrumental in the creation of the Hampton Tree Board more than ten years ago.
Ann could be seen digging and shoveling alongside the tree board members, in honor of her husband.
“Wayne was very much an inspirational guy to me,” said tree board member Randy Sanders. “When I had a problem, or a question about how to address something, Wayne would always take time to answer. He was a very knowledgeable guy.”
Wayne, who dedicated much of his life to his work and forestry, passed away in March of 2025.
The tree board also plans on planting trees at the city cemetery on Friday, April 24, for Arbor Day.
The tree board hopes to plant at least seventy trees this spring with funding from the DNR grant and they plan on using the rest of the funding to plant more trees next fall.
