
Four Aplington-Parkersburg spring sports teams competed Thursday.
The AP/DNH boys soccer team defeated Denver 6-2 in a game that aired on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel. Playing for the first time in a week, the United had a slow first half, but picked up the intensity in the second half. A dive by the Denver goalkeeper gave Cooper Mulder a scoring opportunity midway through the first half, and Max Cummings added another just before halftime for a 2-0 lead. They widened the margin with three goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, with one more added at the 17:59 mark. Aiden Merrill, Dax Weedman, Karter Petersen and another by Mulder completed the scoring. Head Coach Cody Cummings.
Mulder says they’ll learn from the slow start.
Isaiah Olson recorded 11 saves.

The #12 (1A) girls soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie at #3 (1A) Denver. Lorna Bernard got the Falcons on the board with a first half goal for a 1-0 halftime lead. Denver answered with less than 10 minutes remaining, and goalkeeper Emma Haan had a crucial save on a penalty kick to preserve the tie.
The boys tennis team won 5-4 at Columbus Catholic. They split the singles matches, but the Falcons won two doubles matches, including Tyler Wedeking/Sam Janssen at #2 and Jonah Carney/Noah Harbaugh at #3.
Rounding out the day’s action, the boys golf team won 155-165 at Union. Each scoring golfer placed in the top four, led by Cormick Steege at 37. Rylan Ascher was the runner-up at 38. Benny Waller and Jaxson Kleespies each scored 40 to tie for third.
The track & field teams were scheduled to be in action, but both meets were cancelled.
