The Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golf teams competed in a triangular with Webster City on Friday afternoon at Oak Ridge Golf Course.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows finished second, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL placed third.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’ Claire Kirstein sank a 25-foot putt on her final hole to save par and secure medalist honors. Kirstein says some coaching advice helped her make the lengthy putt.
“So, all meet, I had been at least two-putting, getting it really close to the hole,” Kirstein says. “Miss Kahler told me that I need to be more confident going up to it, so that’s what I did. I went up to it, and I was like, ‘OK,’ and I made it.”
Keely Moorehead led Hampton-Dumont-CAL with a top-10 finish. Moorehead says favorable weather and course conditions helped her round.
“Yeah, it was really nice today, so that helped a lot,” Moorehead says. “This course is very, very flat, and there’s not many trees or anything, so it’s a pretty easy course, but it’s different than all the courses I’ve played. But it’s really nice, too.”
Both teams return to the course Monday. The Bulldogs will compete in a triangular with BCLUW and South Hamilton in Union, while the Cowgirls will travel to Story City for an 18-hole invitational.
