A familiar face will lead the West Fork volleyball program this fall.
Jacqlyn Sanders, a West Fork graduate, has been named the Warhawks’ head coach. The appointment was announced at the West Fork school board meeting April 20.
Sanders takes over for Emily Greimann, who led the program for the past four seasons. Sanders brings college playing experience to the program after competing at Kent State and the University of Iowa.
As the coaching change comes between seasons, Sanders says the team recently held a meeting to address offseason expectations.
“I wanted to set some expectations,” says Sanders. “I’m a competitor myself. I don’t like to lose. Being the first-year coach, I have high expectations for myself, and I have high expectations from the girls. So I wanted to get all together before the season and even the offseason really starts and set some ground rules, tell them what I expect from them this season and then what I expect for myself and what they can expect from me this season.”
As Sanders prepares for her first season as head coach, she says she has short- and long-term goals for the program.
“Short term is to, like you said, establish a really good culture,” says Sanders. “I want to be a winning program. I want to be known as a winning team. I know that there are some big volleyball dynasties out there. To name a few, Osage is good. Lake Mills is good. Dike-New Hartford is good. So I want to be, I want West Fork to be on that list, and it might take a couple of years, but I, I’m in it for the long haul, and I want to make West Fork a volleyball dynasty.”
The Warhawks return to the volleyball court Aug. 25 when they travel to Manly to take on Central Springs.
