For the first time in program history, the Wright County Broncos boys soccer team is the North Central Conference champion.
With one game remaining in the regular season, the Broncos are undefeated with 12 wins and four ties.
Head Coach Ethan Krogman says the championship reflects not only this year’s team, but also the foundation built by past teams and the continued commitment from the communities behind the program.
“Over the years, the foundations have been laid, and over time, it’s become this beautiful program that I think will continue to produce the fruits of the labor in which have been laid down years before,” Krogman says. “And on top of it, for all three schools of Belmond-Klemme, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove, I couldn’t be more happy with their willingness to work together and stay committed to keeping a program like this all together. This is what happens when schools are on the same wavelength and all committed to this process. It brings forth beautiful results.”
Krogman says the team’s ability to communicate effectively and work together remain key points as the Broncos prepare for the postseason.
“Communication is key to it,” Krogman says. “Like last night, our game against Garner, I did the stats and we had 27 shots and 19 of them on target. And that doesn’t happen unless people are talking and talking and giving up the ball when they’re in open positions to take advantage of opportunities.”
Wright County will close the regular season Thursday when it hosts Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The Broncos will open postseason play May 27.
