Grundy Center senior Emerson Vokes has had a remarkable high school athletic career in track & field and cross country, and will compete for the last time in a Spartan uniform at this week’s state track & field championships.
After qualifying in two events in his freshman season, he has qualified for three events for three straight years. This season, he’ll compete in the 800, 1600 and 3200. He says offseason training has prepared him for the opportunity.
Last season, he was the champion in the 3200 and placed fifth in the 1600, races he’s qualified in all four years. Having won two cross country state championships, he’ll look to cap off his career in style with a clear goal of another championship.
The 3200 will be Thursday at 3:50 p.m., the 800 will be Saturday at 11:13 a.m., and the 1600 will be Saturday at 3:16 p.m.
