Butler County emergency crews will stage a realistic mock crash tomorrow (Friday) afternoon to teach local high school students about the stark dangers of distracted driving.
According to organizers with Greene Volunteer Ambulance, the simulated head-on collision will feature students from North Butler High School. The safety demonstration is scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of 5th Street and Traer.
The event will require a coordinated effort from area public safety departments. Personnel from Greene and Allison Ambulance, Greene Fire, Butler County EMS, emergency management, and sheriff’s deputies will all be on scene. Additionally, a University of Iowa Aircare helicopter is scheduled to land and take off from the school’s football practice field.
Greene Ambulance officials added that the entire exercise should only last about an hour. However, motorists are urged to use caution when traveling around the high school area tomorrow afternoon.
