The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team produced 422 yards of offense and had a stout defensive performance to bring home a 32-14 win at Denver in Class 2A District 4 action on Friday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. It was the first meeting between the teams since 2013 and the Bulldogs second straight road victory.

HD-CAL rushed out to a 15-0 lead behind a one yard touchdown run and a 82 yard sprint to the house by Ryder Strother. The Cyclones got on the board with a touchdown early in the second quarter that made it a 15-8 game. The Bulldogs responded with a 14 play drive, capped off by a seven yard touchdown reception by Brady Harr to increase their lead to 22-8. The Bulldogs made the most of a one minute drill before the half, as Blaek Burmester found Aaden Keehn over the top for a 24 yard touchdown reception, to take a 29-8 advantage with 12 seconds to spare before the break. In the second half, the Bulldogs only score was a 34 yard field goal by Hunter Rieken early in the fourth, but they controlled time possession to deny a comeback bid. Head Coach Cole Miller.

“We finally put one together where our defense, offense, and special teams were clicking for four quarters. In the second half our offense kind of stalled out a couple times, but we were trying to bleed the clock. They knew that, so they were selling out to stop the run. Then when we were in those obvious pass downs that put us at a disadvantage,” says Miller. “The defense did great. We got them to abandon their strength, which is the option run game, pretty early in the game. It might have been one or two drives, and then they were spreading it out and trying to throw the ball. Our DB’s stepped up and did a great job as well. We were able to limit their passing production and walk away with a lot of good stops. We’re going to enjoy this one this weekend.”

Burmester was 8-15 for 146 passing yards and two touchdowns. Ryder Strother had seven carries for 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Harr and Keehn each had a touchdown. Keehn had 6.5 tackles to lead the Bulldogs defensively.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL (3-3, 2-1 2A-4) will host Roland-Story in Week 7.
