The city and school election in Franklin County on Tuesday featured one contested mayoral race, resulting in a new mayor in Alexander.
Challenger Jason Christensen defeated incumbent Mayor Thomas Schear 19-5.
In Ackley, four candidates sought three open seats on the city council. David Jason Scallon with 349 votes, Michael Wessels with 281 votes and Steven L. Ackerman with 207 votes were elected. Thomas Johnson received 99 votes.
Dows also had a four-way race for three open council positions. Loren Lieneman with 51 votes, Craig E. Russell with 49 votes and William A. Stuck with 40 votes were elected. Richard Mark Echelberger received 36 votes.
Latimer had a three-way race for two council positions. Eric Bruns with 65 votes and Jesse Anderson with 47 votes were elected. Catherine Crooks received 30 votes.
