A Waterloo woman has been sentenced to more than two decades in federal prison for distributing a mixture of drugs that caused a fatal overdose, federal prosecutors said.
Bridgette Marie Washington, 47, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty in September 2025 to distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death.
According to court records, between July 2022 and January 2023, Washington and two others sold methamphetamine, heroin and M-30 pills containing fentanyl. Prosecutors said drugs Washington sold led to four non-fatal overdoses in late 2022. On Jan. 2, 2023, she sold substances marketed as “A1” drugs to multiple people, all of whom lost consciousness after using them. One person later died.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams imposed a 252-month sentence. Washington must also serve six years of supervised release after completing her prison term.
Authorities said Washington had 15 prior felony convictions before the conduct leading to the federal charge. The case was investigated by the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
