The CAL School Board approved its 2026–2027 budget Monday following a public hearing with no community comments. Superintendent Todd Lettow said that while total dollars in the budget increased, the district’s tax levy rate will decrease to $9.53 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
Board members also approved the 2026–2027 school calendar after a separate hearing drew no public input. The calendar sets the first day of school for August 24, includes two weeks of winter break and one week of spring break, and schedules the last day for May 28, 2027.
In other business, the board approved a budget adjustment resolution and set a 3.98% total package increase in its initial proposal to the CAL Education Association. Larson’s Lawn Care was awarded the mowing bid at $250 per service, and childcare rates will remain unchanged for summer 2026.
The board also approved shared service agreements with Belmond-Klemme for transportation and maintenance directors.
