The North Iowa Cedar League coed track & field championship meet is happening Monday at Grundy Center. It was originally scheduled for Thursday, May 2 and rescheduled due to weather.

Aplington-Parkersburg girls head coach Alex Pollock hopes his team can experience the feeling of their hard work paying off.

“The hardest thing for kids to understand is that ‘I can really empty the tank every event that I’m in and trust that over time I’m going to get my lungs, I’m going to get my legs back,'” Pollock says. “Especially those longer races, the 800s and 400s where it is taxing, but that’s why we train. That’s why we do this and that’s why we work hard throughout the week and prepare that way. So just trusting that I can go all out and still have enough left to do it all over again a short time later. I think that’s key. Those are really big things that we focus on. And like I said, we’ve got some really tough kids mentally that I think that’s exciting. And it helps to also have five really good seniors that have led the way and done that all year.”

The Falcons are coming off a third place finish at last year’s meet. AGWSR was second, Dike-New Hartford was fifth and Grundy Center was sixth. Having finished first in most of their meets this year, the Spartans are likely to be among the contenders for the team title.

Coming off first and second place finishes last year, the Denver and Grundy Center boys could be among the favorites, holding some of the best marks in numerous events.

The meet will start at 3:00 p.m.

The North Iowa Cedar League girls golf tournament will be held at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo. Sumner-Fredericksburg and Oelwein have posted, by far, the best scores in the conference. The Cougars have won all but two meets, and the Huskies have won all but one. The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m.
