Governor Kim Reynolds Thursday ordered all flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff in honor of two Iowa Army National Guard soldiers killed while deployed overseas.
The order will remain in place until sunset on the final day of interment for Major Jeffery O’Brien, 45, of Waukee, and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of West Des Moines. Both soldiers served in the Army Reserve with the 103rd Sustainment Command in Des Moines.
The Iowa Army National Guard says both soldiers were killed in action on Sunday, March 1 in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait.
Flags will be lowered on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be flown at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities across the state.
Individuals, businesses, schools and local governments are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
