Belmond-Klemme School District Nutrition Director Kim Belstene will attend the School Nutrition Association’s Legislative Action Conference in Washington, D.C., Sunday, March 8th through Tuesday, March 10th to advocate for school meal programs.
About 850 school nutrition professionals from across the country are expected to be in attendance.
A SNA survey found nearly all responding school meal program directors reported needing more funding, with 79% expressing an extreme need for increased funds to reduce reliance on ultra-processed foods.
During the conference, Belstene and other attendees will have the opportunity to meet with members of Congress to discuss increasing funds for school meals, protecting and expanding access to healthy school meals for all students and to ensure updates to school nutrition standards are attainable for schools.
